June Recap
Welcome one and all to the June recap. Just like that, half of 2019 is over and it doesn't seem like we're any closer to a solution to our 1.14 woes - I'll let H1 explain more about that soon. Most of you would be getting ready to enjoy some well earned holidays soon so your devoted Event and Build teams have been grinding out fun events for everyone. Make yourself comfortable and tag along with me through this little monthly recap!
Fruitbowl News
Young H1 would like to give you an update on the current state of things;
"1.14.3 is here. As promised I said I would look closer at updating the server. To put it extremely politely, 1.14.3 is no where near close enough performance wise for us to even consider running at this stage. It cannot run more than 30 online without the TPS going below 10 after a few hours. Currently people like PaperSpigot are awaiting further updates from Mojang for 1.14 before improving the optimisation and server performance. This is because each time they try to address the lag issues Mojang releases an update which means all of their hard work is for nothing.
Survival's map will be expanded to 10k this week as there is extremely limited area to build on. This will assist all of those newer players joining over the holidays and will be done in conjunction with a new random teleport plugin which is being designed to push people who use it into areas that are untouched. Many of you have had issues recently with players building too close and I hope that this will help resolve this problem.
The biggest downside to not updating to 1.14 at the moment is that most of our bug fixes and new features which Geek has been working hard on (for Prison in particular) are already coded for 1.14. At this stage we will not be downgrading these updates for 1.13 but I will be re-assessing this over time. Mojang continually releases bad updates for the game that are messy and buggy. While I'd love to have all of the new features available for you to play, I will not risk the current (fantastic) lag free gameplay experience that we currently have."
Fruitlympics
Fruitlympics 2019 is also just around the corner now with the events scheduled to begin July 15th. Young Ahtnamas80 will be producing forum signup threads so everyone can join in on the madness. Make sure you put your name down and support your server - will we have new champions or will Survival reign supreme again?
Donations
For the first time in many months, all 3 servers have soundly beaten their donation goals! Amazing effort, huge thank you to everyone who has continued to support the server. Hopefully this becomes a trend and we continue to beat donation goals on all servers.
Voting Competition
Huge thank you to everyone who has been voting regularly - voting has been super competitive as of late. This month there were too many winners for our normal prizes so instead all the winners will receive a $5 voucher. Please message Goldsta via the forums to redeem this. Congratulations to Foxxility + angarang + ChoccyLatte + SkellyBG + stockerz + elrosecroize. Please bear in mind votes get tallied prior to the post being written so some last minute votes that you sneak in probably won't get counted.
Build Competition
July marks the return of Build Competitions - make sure you find time to enter so we can continue hosting these for you all! I'll let young Ravioli handle the rest of this section.
"Well well well, it has been awhile but you have definitely been asking for its return, this month we are bringing back the build competition!! This month the theme is as colossal as the other events happening on the server, we are asking for you to build a statue(make this big and bold)!!! As per usual there are some rules you have to follow so please keep them in mind as you build your masterpieces."
Competition Rules
- The build must be a Maximum of a 60 (length) x 60 (width) x 150 (height) blocks. To stay within this boundary, we suggest creating a border to work within.
- The build must contain something built into a statue form!
- Build must be completed by July 30th 8pm AEDST.
- You must work alone, if you do not you will be disqualified.
- All entries must be built on the creative server.
- As cool as pixel art is, this isn’t the place for it.
- Don’t copy another person’s work, whether it be from in or outside of the server. BE ORIGINAL!
- We need at LEAST 5 people to participate to hand out prizes, so spread the word!
- This build needs to have been started and completed within the month of July.
- Completed entries that don't earn a prize will net the builder a token on their server of choice, the winner will also have their build displayed near the creative servers spawn.
If you have suggestions for themes for future build competitions, please let us know in this forum thread.
Top Players
FruitServers is an amazing community because of the people that are a part of it. Every month one player and one staff member from Survival, Skyblock and Prison are selected and acknowledged for their contribution to the server, whether it be ingame or behind the scenes.
Player of the month Survival - Crimpy. Helpful, active, and engaged in the community, Crimpy has been exemplary throughout June, well done!
Player of the month Skyblock - DavidCini17. Another helpful, active, and all-round pleasant player to have around. Well done David!
Player of the month Prison - Xesber. Always assisting new players and taking time out to help Prison grow, Xesber has been outstanding throughout June. Well done!
Staff of the month Survival - Blackrexy. Consistent vigilance and willingness to engage in banter are what you can expect from Rexy whenever he's online. Well done!
Staff of the month Skyblock - Quicksilver. Although he's relatively new to the team, Quicksilver has very quickly gotten the hang of things and become an asset to the server. His eagerness to tackle new issues serves as a good example to newer staff, well done!
Staff of the month Prison - Kookiies. While planet 13 has been under construction, Kooks has worked tirelessly with the rest of the team to make the place look just a little bit more magical. She's put in crazy hours throughout June, well done!
Survival, Prison, and Skyblock are lucky to have such strong moderating teams, however we are always accepting applications for all of our staff roles. Our wonderful Event and Build Teams in particular are still looking to grow so if you'd like to be a part of something special do consider looking into these roles. Think you have what it takes to join one of these fantastic teams? Submit an application at www.fruitservers.net/staff
As mentioned in previous months we always look forward to hearing feedback from you guys about possible improvements. If you have ideas, please share them with us either through the website, in-game, or via discord. We want to know what you think!
I look forward to seeing you all at Fruitlympics 2019!
~Gold
